People: faculty, staff and students 2. UREC 3. First Year Involvement Writing Center What was the most challenging part of transferring? The most challenging part was accepting the community and becoming a part of it. That doesn't sound like a difficult thing, but I think it can be for transfer students, especially if they come from a community college like I did. Most transfer students move into apartments in town, which automatically creates a certain degree of separation. I also started here living off-campus, so I spent little time on-campus, at first, and when I was there the number of people I saw just blew my mind--which made me a little nervous. Eventually, I had the courage to get to know some people and it got easier to adjust after that. |

Three favorite things about James Madison: 1. The People! 2. Quad and UREC 3. Never being bored. There's ALWAYS something to do.
What was the most challenging part of transferring? The one thing I feared in transferring to JMU was establishing myself socially. At my last school, you did your work and go home, so the social scene wasn't really there. But when I got to JMU there were so many people that I felt I would get lost in the crowd. I found that by going to social events, you meet a lot of good genuine people. Even the random people will have a conversation with you over practically anything.

How long did it take to adjust to James Madison University? I really didn't start to feel at home until my second semester at JMU when I became involved with various organizations on campus. I think that it's so important to just throw yourself whole-heartedly into your new life at JMU- it truly does speed up the process of becoming comfortable and adjusted.
