The Orientation Office Staff
The Orientation Office at James Madison University is comprised of full-time professional and student staff who develop, coordinate, and supervise the transitional needs of first-year and transfer students entering JMU. The Orientation Office coordinates Summer Springboard, 1787 August Orientation, prepare publications such as The One Book, select, hire, and train approximately 300 student staff to assist new students and family members in their transition to JMU. Staff members work throughout the year to ensure incoming first-year and transfer students are provided with the resources, knowledge and peer connections for success at JMU.
2011 Assisting New Transfer Students (ANTs)
The Assisting New Transfer Students (ANTs) team works exclusively with our incoming transfer students as a part of the Transfer Summer Springboard and 1787 Transfer August Orientation programs. This team of transfer students is selected in the spring and works throughout the summer to make connections with incoming students and connect them with resources around campus. In addition, the ANTs provide support to Madison Transfer programs and maintain contact with transfer students as a resource and support.
2011 Orientation Operations Assistants (OOAs)
The Orientation Operations Assistants (OOAs) work diligently behind the scenes to make sure that your transition experience is as seamless as possible. OOAs work throughout the year assisting our guests, students, faculty, and staff members as well as the members of the Orientation Office professional staff. Their time and effort are crucial to our success... and yours.
2011 Orientation Peer Advisers (OPAs)
Orientation Peer Advisers (OPAs) are a group of students selected each spring to work with our First-Year Summer Springboard and 1787 August Orientation programs. Assisting us in the supervision of our 250 First yeaR Orientation Guide volunteers, OPAs are a key link in the successful transition of first-year students to James Madison University.
The 2011 Student Coordinator Team
Our team of Student Coordinators is a group of juniors and seniors at JMU who have served in a variety of roles within our Orientation programs prior to their current role in the office. Responsible for creating intentional programming during the week of 1787 August Orientation and recruiting, selecting, training, and training our almost 300-member student staff, these students have a passion for JMU that cannot be missed.
Meet the Student Coordinators!
Graduate Assistants are hired each year to provide additional support to the Orientation Office and gain hands on experience in their field of study. Graduate assistants tasks include overseeing the Orientation web site and publication process, providing expert and assistance with the Orientation assessment process, and developing the student staff through supervision, recruitment, hiring, and training.
The Orientation Office Professional Staff
The professional staff in the Orientation Office works year round to bring incoming transfer and first-year students purposeful programming aimed at preparing students to be active and authentic participants in the JMU learning experience.
