Trelawny Learning Community

...for Biology students

The Trelawny Learning Community (TLC) is designed for 20-25 first-year students who are majoring in Biology. While living together in Gifford Hall, members of the TLC are enrolled in a seminar course designed just for them. This seminar covers a wide range of topics in the biological sciences and is an opportunity to develop relationships with faculty from the College of Science and   Mathematics. The TLC will offer a 2 credit seminar in the Fall of 2008 followed by a 1 credit seminar in the Spring of 2009.

Past seminar topics have included issues of biodiversity, global human food supply, and stem cell research. We have numberous professionals speak about careers in biology and their experiences after graduation.

As a member of the Trelawny Learning Community, you will have the opportunity to form friendships with students who share in your academic interests. You can expect to form study groups in the residence hall and to have support from upper-class students who are also majoring in Biology.

We maintain an active social spirit with sharing meals on occasiion, holding movie nights, and taking trips to Washington, D.C., the Shenandoah National Park, and other places of interest.
