ANTs are Assisting New Transfer Student peers that will guide transfer students through Summer Springboard and Transfer 1787. They also transferred and can give you the scoop on what it’s like to transfer to JMU.
Chips is Mr. Chips, a full-service convenience store located across the street from the JMU Bookstore.
Convo is the Convocation Center, where basketball games, many concerts and public events are held.
D-Hall is the all-you-care-to-eat dining facility on the Bluestone side of campus.
Duke Dog Alley is a tunnel under I-81 that allows you to easily get from the west side of campus to UREC and the Convo.

ECL is the East Campus Library located on the corner of the ISAT complex.

FYI First Year Involvement, located in Huffman Hall, is open to first-year students and resident advisors. It’s a place where you can have fun and get assistance with writing projects and academic support.
GenEd is the General Education Program, the liberal arts core curriculum required of every student.

MOAT stands for Madison Orientation Adventure Trips for incoming first-year students.
OCL is the Off Campus Life office that can assist commuter students with finding off-campus housing, roommates and signing up for utility deposit assistance.
OPA Orientation Peer Advisers will guide you through Summer Springboard Orientation and help run 1787 August Orientation.
ORL The Office of Residence Life, located in Huffman Hall, is in charge of all on-campus housing.
PIN is your Personal Identification Number to make off-campus phone calls from your residence hall room.
The Quad is the large grassy area in front of Wilson Hall in the Bluestone area of campus and a popular spot to spend some downtime.
TDU is Taylor Down Under, our on-campus coffee shop and great place to hang out.
UHC is the University Health Center at the end of Burruss parking lot.
UREC is the University Recreation Center with aerobic, cardio and weight rooms, various sports courts, a climbing wall, an indoor track, a junior Olympic-size pool, an awesome Adventure Center and even a smoothie bar.
Orientation engages students in the JMU learning experience by preparing them to be active and authentic members of the university community.
