James Madison University Students for a Free Tibet

Mission Statement

We, the concerned students of James Madison University of Harrisonburg, Virginia, feel that the action of the Chinese government to illegally occupy the nation of Tibet is unconscionable and should not be tolerated by individuals opposed to the infringement of natural human rights, religious intolerance, and genocide. It is, therefore, our intent to provide our school and community with a mechanism through which we may educate others on the current political and social situation in Chinese-occupied Tibet, and motivate them to challenge, through non-violent means, the policies of the power structure of government and private industry that maintains this situation. Our peaceful goals are to do everything within our power to promote support for the exiled Tibetan government, to spread multicultural awareness, understanding, and respect, and to convince the global community that the nation of Tibet should be independent and free from unwanted foreign rule. We do this in the spirit of peace, understanding, and liberty.
