Outlook

After loosing a starting pitcher, catcher and outfielder, Madison none-the-less looks like they present a strong team with an abundance of young talent. The Dukes will have to learn quickly in 1998 as new players take on a starting role.

Pitching

Three young and talented pitchers join the team eager to play and win. Sophomore transfer Andrea Taliferro presents a well rounded game, as well as a balanced pitch selection. Freshman Casey Quinn combines speed and accuracy in her pitching style. Nadia Al-Masri the sophomore pitcher who pitched a majority of games last season will have to use her experience to lead this Duke pitching staff.

Infield

With last years Co-Captain and star short-stop Kim Hartzler returning to short she will again lead the Dukes infield. The rest of the infield remains the same as well. Junior Co-Captain Jennifer Brown(first base) looks to guide the Dukes to another good year, with smart play and leadership. Junior Kristi McQuiddy(second base) adds speed and quickness to the infield making the right side impenatrable. Sophomore Jen Mattison(third base) rounds out the infield with quick hands, smart play and a good arm, only adding to the strength of the Dukes Defense. Freshman catcher Jenn Jeffers will see sufficient time behind the plate with her good leadership and experience. Other infielders to see sufficient playing time; Karen Redclift, Jill Marshall, Carolyn Yang, and Jess Rath.

Outfield

A sophomore Terri Bullock starts in center. With her speed and accurate throwing arm we look for Terri to lead this Duke outfield in 1998. Freshman Joy Button, will play in left, with speed, good instincts and a strong arm. Button will play a key role on JMU's team. In left Sophomore transfer Liz Green will need to play solid defense to round out a complete Duke Defense.

Hitting

This year's team presents a lot of power and speed for JMU. Sophomore transfer stand-out Karen Redclift displays a powerful hitting attack and solid defense to fill in at first or third when needed. Carolyn Yang a sophomore third basemen presents a consistent hitting attack backed by speed and experience. Lone senior Dawn Brooks brings power and consistancy to the plate for this talented team.
