In Remembrance of  Charlotte (Chic) Holg Moore,

 former secretary and long time supporter of AED,

Charlotte Holg Moore, a longtime resident of Bronxville, died on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, in Birmingham, Alabama.

A native of Wilmette, Illinois, Charlotte graduated from New Trier High School.  She attended Northwestern University in the 1930s where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and performed in the Waamu shows.  She met and married her husband, Dr. Maurice Lee Moore, at Northwestern.  They were married 70 years at the time of his death in December 2003.

Dr. and Mrs. Moore lived in Bronxville nom 1951. Mrs. Moore served various positions with and received recognition awards from the Bronxvil1e Welcome Wagon Newcomers Club, Girl Scouts, School 8 PTA, West Center Congregational Church, and PEO.

Mrs. Moore was executive secretary of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the national pre­medical honor society, for over 44 years.  She helped her husband found and edit The AED Newsletter and run the AED alumni affairs from their home office in Bronxville.  With Dr. Moore, she traveled widely.

In the Birmingham community since 1994, she was a resident of Mount Royal Towers where she had been active in its library and in feeding its birds and cats.  She also volunteered for programs at Brookwood Hospice and the First Presbyterian Church.

A 65-year member of the International Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, the philanthropic educational organization, she was recently honored by the Birmingham Chapter with a Designated Award to be given in her honor to the PEO International Peace Scholarship Fund.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by sister, June Holg Alexander, and brother, Charles Holg, Jr., and daughter, Margaret Moore Grindle.

Mrs. Moore is survived by her children, Dr. Daniel Moore, of London, England, and Dr. Amanda Moore, of Bronxville, New York; two grandsons: Bryan Grindle of Birmingham, Sam Moore of London; two granddaughters: Kerry Grindle Fulgham of Birmingham, Christina Moore of Annapolis, and two great-grandsons: Drew Grindle and Tyler Fulgham of Birmingham.

She was buried in the Moore family plot at the Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill, Florida, on September 17th.  A celebration of her life was held at Mount Royal Towers,Birmingham, Alabama, on September 18th.  A memorial service was held Sunday, October 1st , 2006 at West Center Congregational Church, 101 Pondfield Road West, Bronxville,New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Alpha Epsilon Delta, James Madison University, MSC 9015, Harrisonburg,VA 22807 for the Maurice and Charlotte Moore Scholarship.

In Remembrance of  Dr. Maurice L, "ML", Moore,

 former President and long time supporter of AED,

died on New Year's Eve (2003) in

 Birmingham, Alabama.

 

Before moving to Birmingham in 1994, he had been a longtime resident of Bronxville, New York, where he was a Scout Master for Troop 3 and trustee of West Center Congregational Church.

Dr. Moore joined Sterling Drug in 1959 after research positions at Sharp and Dohme, Frederick Stearns & Co., Smith, Klein & French and Vick Chemical Company.  He remained with Sterling Drug for 15 years before retiring in 1974.

Dr. Moore published scientific research articles on medicinal compounds, sulfa drugs, antiasthmatic agents and analgesics.  He patented many chemical compounds and their derivatives.

A native of Laurel Hill, Florida, Dr. Moore received bachelor's and master's degrees in chemistry from the University of Florida in 1930 and 1931. He received his Ph.D. in chemistry in 1934 from Northwestern University where he met his wife, Charlotte Margaret Holg.  The Moore's celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on December 2nd.

Dr. Moore was a member and former officer of several professional organizations, including the American Chemical Society, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the New York Metropolitan Reference and Research Agency.  He was a fellow of the American association for the Advancement of Sciences and the American Institute of Chemists.

Dr. Moore also held several positions including national president in Alpha Epsilon Delta, the pre-medical honor society.  His other professional societies included Sigma Xi, Delta Chi, Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Chi Sigma, Gamma Sigma Epsilon, and Phi Sigma.

In addition to his wife, Dr. Moore is survived by his children, Dr. Daniel Moore, of London, England, and Dr. Amanda Moore, of Bronxville, New York; his sister, Lizzie V. Davidson, of Santa Ana, California; four grandchildren and one great grandson.

He was predeceased by a sister, Myrtlene Moore Childs, and brother, Daniel Porter Moore, and a daughter, Margaret Moore Grindle.

The funeral service was held at the McLaughlin-Altman Funeral Home, 492 East Pine Avenue, Crestview, Florida, on Thursday, January 8th.  Dr. Ed Nichols of the Laurel Hill Baptist Church conducted the burial service at the Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill, Florida.  A celebration of the life service was held at Mount Royal Towers, Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday, January 10th with Rev. Paul Sanderson presiding.

A memorial service will be held at West Center Church, Bronxville, New York, at a future date.
