The University of Miami School of Medicine AED Smoking Prevention Community Project Targeting Youths Arthur E. Pitchenik MD Involve your chapter by participating in this worthwhile Anti-Smoking Project! AED members will gain public health community service credit which very favorably supports applications to medical schools, will learn a lot of medicine, and, most importantly, will save lives. For every two teenagers that are prevented from becoming long term smokers, one (50%) is saved from losing, on average, 15 years of life from one or more of the smoking related diseases seen in the enclosed Video. For heavy smokers, the statistics are even worse. Smoking prevention among youths is, therefore, one of the greatest public health opportunities of our time!
Dr. Pitchenik is available to answer questions by E-Mail or phone from any AED chapters or individual AED members who are interested in initiating this Smoking Prevention Project in their community and looks forward to sharing his experience in developing and implementing the Project in his own community over the past 10 years. A cover letter was sent to all chapters regarding the opportunity to participate in this very important project, which utilizes Videos and includes a study plan. Please contact us if you did not receive it. aed@jmu.edu | |||||||
