FWC: Celebrating 34 years on campus

  Scholarships

The JMU Faculty Women's Caucus, composed of faculty and administrators, has established a scholarship fund in recognition of Drs. Bruce, Crawford, Morrison, and Rummel, women who were known as founders of the Caucus.  This scholarship fund is known as the Bruce-Crawford-Morrison-Rummel Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded each spring for the following academic year to a student in Kinesiology and Athletics who embodies the spirit and the goals of the Caucus.  The goals of the Caucus are to work for the civil and human rights of women on the JMU campus, and in all ways possible to further the cause of women. The student(s) chosen should be rising seniors and most importantly embody the spirit of the women to whom the scholarship has been dedicated. In addition the nominee should demonstrate significant academic success, involvement in extracurricular activities, and have the potential to make a significant contribution to the discipline of kinesiology and/or women's athletics in the future.

The selection of the scholarship winner will be made in the following manner.  Members of the JMU Faculty Women's Caucus, who are also faculty in the Department of Kinesiology, will nominate a woman who they feel is worthy of this scholarship. They will forward the name(s) to the President of the Caucus who will notify the Foundation, the student, and present the recipient to the Caucus during the last meeting of the Caucus academic year. The scholarship recipient will also be expected to attend the annual Kinesiology Convocation in April, and the Faculty Women's Caucus Picnic. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the scholarship.
Please send all nominations to Dr. Judith Flohr by April 5.  All nominations should include a resume, a letter from the nominee (statement of professional goals, philosophy) and a letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor or coach as to why the nominee is deserving of the scholarship.
