Mona’s Festwalz

In a circle with a partner.  It’s a mixer unless you have ten couples.  It’s a waltz from Iceland, but has lots of variations.  The numbers in the notation below refer to 1-2-3’s.  Begin in a circle with the man on the left.

1-2           all balance forward and back

3-4           SHE trades one PLACE (passing two people) to the right, she walks forward then turns halfway to her right to back into place

HE trades one PLACE (two people) to the left, turning right to walk forward on the outside of the circle

All come back to join hands in a circle to do it again

Repeat a total of five times.  On the fifth time do NOT come back into a circle, but instead go straight into part 2

1      right hands with your partner (whoever was in that place after the fifth switch), pull through to the next

2                   left hands with the next, pull through

3-4           right hands with the next, he turns her under their joined hands

5      right hands with this person, pull through

6      left hands with the next, pull through

7-8           right hands with partner, walk around once – fast!

9-16      waltz turns

Part two repeats

With my music, the dance repeats twice.  At the end of the second time through the dance the music continues, so the couples should continue to do waltz turns until the music ends.
