Eiswalz

This is a waltz but it's very slow.  Each count is one beat, not one measure.

The dance begins in a tight varsouvienne position, couples facing LOD around a circle.

meas.  beat      step

1                         1          all cross R over L for a big step, diagonally forward to the L

          2          bring L to R

3          turn on both feet to face diagonally forward R

2                         4          all cross L over R for a big step, diagonally forward to the R

          5          bring R to L

6          turn on both feet to face diagonally forward L

3-4      7-12      repeat 1-6, on the last one, don't turn to face the other                       way... just balance

5        13         all cross R behind L for a big step, diagonally backward to                       the L

          14         bring L to R

15         turn on both feet to face diagonally forward L

6        16         all cross L behind R for a big step, diagonally backward to                       the R

          17         bring R to L

18         turn on both feet to face diagonally forward R

7-8      19-24    repeat 13-18, on the last one bring right arms over her head                       to be facing with both hands joined crossed, his back to the                       middle of the circle

9-12    25-36    couples travel into the circle, him backing up, her moving                       forward, for four 1-2-3's.  he begins back on his L and she                       begins forward on her R with the same crossing step as                       above.  this means he'll have to take a small stutter-step                       somewhere to be on the correct foot.

13-16  37-48    couples travel back out of the circle with 4 1-2-3's,                       beginning forward on his L, backward on her R.  at the end,                       land in varsouvienne facing LOD.

17-24  49-72    forward for 8 crossing 1-2-3's, all begin with R crossing over                       L

25       73         he leads her forward a little, he moves back a little (but                       almost stays in place), couple begins to turn                                   counterclockwise in place.  big first step, no crossing, both                       begin on R

74                          bring L to R

75                          step in place: this is a balance counterclockwise

26       76-78    balance her backwards, him a little forwards, facing the                       same direction but rotating clockwise just a little

27-28  79-84    couple rotates once around counterclockwise, walking for 6                       steps, her forward and him backing up just a little.  this is                       still in varsouvienne

29-30  85-90    repeat 25-26/73-78

31-32  91-96    couple rotates once around clockwise, walking 6 steps, HIM                       forward and HER backing up just a little

                      (measures 25-32 are "balances")

33-36  97-108   dancers release partners, walk big circles away from each                       other.  He walks forward (LOD) and out to the left to walk                       counterclockwise as large a circle as time and space permit.                        she walks forward (LOD) and out to the right, walking                       clockwise as big as possible.  They come together after 4                       1-2-3's and gently touch both hands at about shoulder level

37-40  109-120 release again, he walks RLOD for a big circle, arching to R                       (again into the middle of the circle) for 4 1-2-3's.  she walks                       RLOD arching to L (again to outside of circle).  after 4                       1-2-3's couples join inside hands, facing each other

              (measures 33-40 are "large circles")

41       121-124 still joined with his R, her L hands, couples travel just a                       little LOD with a balance in 3 steps.  they'll be back-to-back                       at the end of the balance

42       125-128 balance back face-to-face, still inside hands joined

43-44  129-134 he turns L (counterclockwise), she turns R (clockwise) in 6                       small steps, join in closed, shoulder-waist, or                       shoulder-shoulder position with his back to LOD

                      (measures 41-44 are "small circles")

45-48  135-146 waltz turns traveling LOD

49-64  147-194 repeat 33-48/97-146
