Dayagim

This is an Israeli dance done with partners, beginning in a circle facing LOD. Hold hands in skater's position behind your backs. Choreographed by Shalom Herman. It was originally performed as part of a three-dance set about fishermen and incorporated nets and baskets of flowers with the movements.

1-4                 run LOD, start on outside feet

5        step out on outside foot

6        hop on outside foot

7        step in on inside foot

8        hop on inside foot

for 5-8 swing arms in a figure 8 out and up then in and up, and land in a front skaters' position

9-12            run LOD, start on outside feet

13       prep: bend knees, tighten arms and grip

14-16       jump!  she jumps, picks up feet underneath, presses off his hands for more height.  he pushes her up with his hands and lifts with his knees for more height.  she MUST keep her elbows from bending when she jumps or she won't get as much height!  she doesn't have to lock her elbows, but she has to keep them firm in whatever position they began.

17-20       run LOD, start on new outside feet

21-24       repeat 5-8 on new outside feet, land facing with R sides together, R arm around front of partner's torso holding on to his or her waist, L arm curved up in the air

25-32       buzz swing!  finish with his back to the center, her facing him, both hands up touching partner's: in a pattycake position

33-34       pas de basque to man's left, woman's right, move hands with p-d-b

35-36       repeat to other side

37-40       all run diagonally to R to new position on the circle.  will take the position of the other gender, will land facing someone from two couples around the circle

41-44       repeat 33-36 (still first to man's left, woman's right)

45-48       all run diagonally home to own partner, join both hands parallel

49       step out on man's L woman's R

50       hop

51       step out on other foot

52       hop

53-56       repeat 49-52 going into the circle

57-64       join hands behind in backwards skaters' position (starting position) and turn around with running steps once as a couple, rotating counter-clockwise
