Amelia’s Waltz

This is a waltz.  The notation numbers below represent measures of 1-2-3, rather than individual beats.  The dance begins with couples in varsouvienne position facing LOD around in a circle. An American mixer with old-time styling. It was choreographed about 30 years ago by Fred and Mary Colette from Atlanta, Georgia and originally called "Waltz Balonette."

1        balance forward, start on first feet

2        balance back

3-4                 walk forward

5-6                 repeat 1-2

7-8                 release L hands, he walks just a little diagonally forward R to face out of the circle, leads her ½ around to face inside the circle, all join hands around in a single circle with men facing out, women facing in. Be careful that your hands are joined in front of you, not to your sides.

9-10            all balance to their own forward and back

11-12       drop L hands, R hand pigeon-grip with partner, walk around once to come back to the big circle

13-14       repeat 9-10

15-16       drop R hands, he raises his L hand and offers her his R hand beneath their joined L hands.  She puts her R in his R, he leads her into varsouvienne position; everyone has a new partner
