About Carrie Kutner

During the 1994 1995 academic year, Carrie Kutnerattended JMU as a freshman.  Before beginning her college career, Carrie was informed that she had cancer.  However, she decided to persevere and strive for a normal life.  She went away to school to experience life to its fullest potential.  Carrie endured a series of chemotherapy treatments while she was at JMU, managing to stay on task with her studies and impress the JMU community with her positive attitude.  While this remarkable student only attended the University for a short time, Carrie charmed students, professors, and anyone she came into contact with using her wit, charm, and personable demeanor.  She was very involved in campus life, serving as a Student Ambassador.  Tragically, Carrie lost her battle with cancer the summer following her freshman year.

To honor her strength, spirit, and enthusiasm,

JMU Student Ambassadors endow a scholarship in her memory annually.
