October 7, 1998 Meeting Minutes


To all:

I hope everyone had a nice, short, fall break!

I am sorry that it has taken me so long to send out the
minutes. I am trying to compose an address book and send
the message through that, but it is not working. I am a bit
computer illiterate (as Patrick is well aware of). I will
figure it out soon!

Here are the minutes from wednesday's meeting:

Matt Contento began the meeting on Wed. at 5:00 with an
introduction of our advisor, Dr. Thompson.

Matt then handed out and collected membership applications.
If you have not turned in one yet please stop by Dr.
Thompson's office and take one from the folder (it should
be just outside his office) and return it back in to the
folder or give it to Matt Contento. If you are including a
check make sure you personally hand it to Dr. Thompson or
an officer.

Don't forget to pay dues if you have not done so yet. They
are $15 for the semester and $30 for the year. National
dues are $40 per year - if you are already a member you
will receive a bill in the mail (those of you who receive
the magazines already).

Matt discussed the importance of being involved in ACHESA.
ACHESA is a professional organization so you can gain a lot
of knowledge about the health care administration
profession if you are involved.

We developed a new attendance policy so listen up! Each
member must attend at least 2 activities per month.
Activities include:

-weekly (wed./thurs.)meetings. We will hold two meetings a
month, one on a wed. and the other on a thurs.

-committee meetings. Your committee will meet at times
other than the weekly meetings to discuss upcoming events
and such.

-outside activities: these consist of community service
and speakers.

If you think that you will not be able to make two
activities please let me know. This policy is in effect as
of the next meeting (oct.22).

If you fail to make the two activity requirement then I
will talk with you about it and make a decision as to
whether you should continue to be a member of ACHESA.

We then divided into committees and each committe developed
a list of goals for the year. We will discuss these at the
next meeting.

Speaking of the next meeting....get your planners out. The
next meeting will be on Thursday, October 22 @ 5:00 in
Modular123. And the following meeting will be on Wednesday,
Nov. 4 @ 5:00 in Modular 123.

We would like new ACHESA t-shirts this year, so put your
ACHESA thinking caps on and be creative.

Patrick, Julie and I attended the open house at MCV/VCU on
Fri. We listened to current and past students talk about
the graduate HSA program at MCV/VCU. The program is ranked
7th in the nation!!! It was a great opportunity to listen
to the different perspectives of going to grad school
directly after undergrad versus gaining experience by first
working and then attending grad school. I have information
about the requirements as well as the program in general if
anyone is interested. I will talk about it at the next
meeting, but please contact me if you have specific
questions about it.
