Learning Strategies Instruction

What are Learning Strategies?

•  Designed to improve actual process of learning

•  Based on areas of weakness identified in comprehensive testing

•  Based on specific course demands as related to those weaknesses

•  Taught one-on-one to learn and apply cognitive learning strategies

•  Modified according to academic progress or changing needs

•  Available as needed for specific challenges or on a weekly basis

•  Taught by strategy specialists trained as special educators

 

Who benefits?

•  Students with specific learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorders, psychiatric disabilities impacting learning, traumatic brain/head injuries, etc.

•  Students who have not been successful using existing learning resources or tutoring programs

•  Students who are motivated to change learning patterns

 

What is the cost?

•  Free of charge to any student registered with the Office of Disability Services at JMU

•  Students are expected to apply strategies to learning
