American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)--Internship opportunities

 

The AAAS is offering a program called Entry Point 2004!, a program which provides outstanding opportunities for paid internships for undergraduates and graduate students who are pursing technical careers.  Internships are available throughout the country at NASA, IBM, NIH, Texas Instruments and JPMorganChase.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

-Full time student

-GPA cumulative = B

-Must have a documented disability

-Currently attending an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, Physical Science, Life Science, Business, Accounting and Finance

 

If interested, please submit the following:

-Letter of introduction including the type of assignment that best uses or builds upon your skills and work experience

-Current resume

-Description of any required work accommodation or assistive technology

-2 letters of recommendation (one from faculty)

-Copy of official transcript (with last semester's grades)

-Statement of U.S. citizenship or right to work permit (Student visa)

"SPRING AND FALL 2004 Internship Opportunities for College Students with Disabilities"

With sponsorship from the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) of the U.S. Department of Labor, The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars (TWC) has created a new internship program which seeks to recruit qualified college students with disabilities to intern in the executive, legislative, or judicial branches of the federal government. A total of fifty (50) students will be selected to participate in this program in 2004. The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) will offer technical guidance and support to implement this one-of-a-kind initiative.

Applicants Must:
- Be enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university
- Be at least a second semester sophomore at the time of the internship
- Have at least a 2.75 GPA
- Show proof that they will receive academic credit for the internship
- Be a U.S. Citizen
- Self-identify as a person with a disability as defined by the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).

 

Tuition scholarships are available, and students will receive academic credit while gaining valuable work experience in Washington, DC.

Emerging Leaders Summer Internship

 

The Emerging Leaders are dedicated to providing undergraduate and graduate level college students with disabilities with

paid summer internships at prominent corporations.  The 2004 program offers opportunities for internships at Booz Allen Hamilton and at other corporations including JP Morgan Chase, KPMG, and Liz Claiborne.

 

Applications for the 2004 Emerging Leaders program are being evaluated

on a rolling basis so early application is encouraged.  The final

deadline for consideration is February 15, 2004.

-The Summer Intern Program is designed to provide real life work experience with a student's academic and career goals.  This program gives   students an outstanding opportunity to learn about what we do and provide students with motivation to seek a career with the Federal Service.

-Applications consist of a resume or OF-612, educational transcripts and a cover letter.  It is appreciated if cover letters state where applicant is spending the summer, if they have transportation and their career goals.

-Ideally the work period will be from June 1 - August 23.

-Most employee positions will be full-time but part-time can be arranged if needed.

-Employees will generally be paid at the GS-3/Step 1 ($9.80 an hour) or GS-4/Step 1 ($11.01 an hour), depending on their education and experience.

-The Management Team has provided a listing of ideal locations and we will make every effort to fill these positions first; however, there are times when an individual's qualification and residence might make another location advantageous.

previous childcare experience is desired.  The wilderness youth counselor position is a year-round salaried position.
