Classroom Assistive Technology
On referral from the Office of Disability Services and in coordination with Media Resources & Classroom Technology, classroom assistive technology is available to students with documented disabilities.
Students and faculty should contact the Office of Disability Services in order to determine the most appropriate and effective technology available for use in the classroom.
Hearing Assist Systems
Personal hearing assist systems are available for loan. These consist of small belt pack transmitters with microphones and inputs for program audio, which can be provided to instructors or connected to classroom audio systems, and small receivers with earpieces for students.
Classroom Technology Adaptations
Some classrooms have hearing assist systems installed, but in most classrooms audio connection points are provided for hearing assist systems that are owned by or loaned to individual users.
Closed Caption Decoders for Video Playback Systems
CC decoders are built into some newer TV sets, or can be installed upon request for classroom video systems not currently equipped. The Media Center in Carrier Library also supports playback of captioned videotapes and DVDs viewed outside of class. Please note, however, that some commercial video programming may not be captioned.
