This week, two of our Scholars presented poetry at the Furious Flower Poetry Center. Paloma, a 9th grader from Harrisonburg High School, read Gwendolyn Brooks' A Crazy Woman, while Giselle, a 10th grader from Page County High School, read Gwendolyn Brooks' Sadie and Maud.

This poetry reading took place as part of an ongoing celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Gwendolyn Brooks, a revered American poet who was well-known for her support of up-and-coming Black writers and to whom the Furious Flower Poetry Center is dedicated to. This event also dedicated a bench outside of the organization in her honor.
