Wish
the search for off-campus housing was easier? JMU’s Off-Campus Life office
offers the resources you need to find roommates, a place to live, and the most
affordable housing.
OCL
can help students to narrow down their choices for living and bring students to
tour properties. They offer lease reviews, conflict resolution between
roommates, and a Utility Deposit Assistance Program (UDAP)—a JMU sponsored program that protects your credit rating
and allows you to get utility service connections without a deposit.
Students
can reference brochures for different properties and a Housing Guide, a guide
to many of the properties in Harrisonburg and their amenities to help compare
properties side by side. OCL also hosts Housing Fairs, where different properties
advertise by setting up informational booths, and Roommate Mixers, where
students searching for roommates can meet others in the same position.
The
OCL office will be moving to the first floor of Festival off of JMad’s Lounge
in the beginning of spring semester. An open house will be held in Spring 2013 for everyone to check out the new office. It will include a lounge with Xbox
games, controllers, iPads, and magazines for students to use!
