Dr. Thomas Benzing, Professor in the Integrated Science and Technology Department, has been awarded $59,804 from DuPont for his project entitled, “Creel Clerks to Conduct Angler Surveys on South and Shenandoah Rivers during Summer 2016.” Dr. Benzing will be working with student interns and the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries to collect information on fishing pressure, fish species preference, harvest and catch rates, fish consumption, knowledge of health advisories, and economic expenditures by interviewing river users from Waynesboro to Front Royal.

Four student interns will kayak designated river reaches and survey the anglers and other river users on South and Shenandoah Rivers during May – September.

Best of luck to Dr. Benzing and his team of students as they proceed with their research!
