A Good Blinder

WVPT-TV (PBS, Harrisonburg) will broadcast it for the second time at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14.

"A Good Blinder" is a half-hour documentary about Dan Bowman of Harrisonburg, who is blind, tunes pianos and crafts fine furniture using power tools and other precision instruments. 

SMAD Professors Shaun Wright and Mike Grundmann are the producers.

The film won the Audience Choice Award for Best Documentary Short at the Sidewalk Film Festival in Alabama. It also was named Best of Competition/Faculty Documentary by the Broadcast Education Association. And it has so far won competitive acceptance at Assim Vivemos, Brazil's International Disability Film Festival; Louisville's International Festival of Film; the Documentary Short Film Festival; and the Skyline Indie Film Fest in Winchester, Va.
