What We Do
Media Relations
  • Work with journalists to share compelling stories from campus and position faculty as expert sources.
  • Respond to media inquiries on a broad range of topics related to JMU.
  • Provide media training to faculty and administrators and advise academics on how to get their scholarship in the news.
Social Media
  • Manage JMU’s main social media accounts including Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram – a combined social media following of 185,000+ people.
  • Monitor social media around-the-clock for reputational and public safety threats.
  • Consult with colleges, departments and other units on social web strategy, offer resources and host gatherings of campus social media managers.
  • Oversee the JMU social media influencer program.
  • Produce beautiful photo & video content specifically for social media that gives our brand a human voice.
Crisis Communication

Lead communications related to death, injury, health and safety issues, damage to facilities, disruption to operations and the integrity of the university, its people, products or services.

Issues Management

Continuously scan for emerging issues and develop, implement and evaluate strategies to ensure that the right messages are communicated to the right audiences both internally and externally.

Executive Communications

Partner with senior leadership to develop emails, speeches, remarks, presentations and videos that express and support the administration’s vision and goals for the university.

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

Assists individuals seeking public records about the University’s activities under Virginia’s Freedom of Information Act.
