The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Landscape at JMU

On Monday, October 20, The Madison Business Network (MBN) held an informational meeting where lunch was provided for those in attendance. The event went as follows:

  • Dr. Yvonne Harris, Vice Provost, Research & Scholarship, welcomed everyone to the event and discussed her excitement about the involvement of undergraduate students with research at the university.
  • Carol Hamilton, Director, Center for Entrepreneurship, provided attendees with updates about JMU’s innovation and entrepreneurship landscape. She also talked about the importance of viewing entrepreneurship as a general mindset instead of just being a term used for business ventures.
  • Dr. Kurt Paterson, Department Head, Engineering, spoke about Epicenter, a new student organization at JMU which is focused on increasing student engagement with creativity, entrepreneurship and innovation at the university.
  • Attendees had the opportunity to network amongst themselves at the end of the event.
