Ebola and travel

News

The Ebola epidemic continues to increase in Africa but the risk of this spreading in the United States is very low.  Ebola is only spread when a person has symptoms, and then by contact with body fluids, not through the air like influenza. James Madison University, its Pandemic Task Force, and the University Health Center are following World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Virginia Department of Health recommendations for all precautions in health care to protect students, faculty, and staff.

Travel to the several African nations affected to work in health care should be considered with caution. If you must travel elsewhere, use these precautions from the latest CDC bulletin

The most complete information is available and updated daily at cdc.gov/vhf/ebola.  For specific questions regarding JMU student travel, please contact the Medical Director or the Patient Advocate at the University Health Center, 540-568-6178.
