It is with deep sadness announce that we announce the passing of a dear friend and colleague, George Lovell. He died on February 21 after a yearlong battle with cancer.

George was loved by students and coworkers for his generosity, good humor, enthusiasm, and wide-ranging life experiences. He was curious about everything and had spent his 73 years indulging that curiosity. He had useful suggestions for solving almost any problem one could think to bring to him, and would share those suggestions at length and without reservations. He loved to help people and was extremely generous with his time and experience. In fact, helping people was such a pleasure for him that he did not view it as generosity, as that would suggest some sort of cost to him that he did not feel.

George was also the living embodiment of our commitment to lifelong learning, having just completed his bachelor’s degree last year. His passion for learning was driven, in part, for how to make the educational experiences of our students the best possible.

George’s kindness, abilities, and enthusiasm will be difficult, if not impossible, to replace. We have lost not only a wonderful colleague, but also a friend and mentor. He will be deeply missed.
