Summer 2015 ETMC Faculty/Staff Workshops

The ETMC will be offering summer workshops on a variety of topics (see schedule below). If none of these work in your schedule, we also will do custom times for individuals or small groups and will schedule these at your discretion. If you have other topics that you would like some inservice with, please feel free to suggest these and we will do our best to structure a learning experience for anyone interested.

Call the ETMC (568-6302) to sign up or email emtc@jmu.edu if you want to join a Wednesday session (we need to know a week before the session if you plan to attend).

Annotating with iAnnotate: May 13

Come learn about how the iAnnotate app can help you read, take notes, and share your PDF/Word/Powerpoint files on the go using your iPad or mobile device. Bring your iPad and we will download the app for you.

Explore whiteboard iPad apps: May 20

Come an explore whiteboard iPad apps including “Explain Everything” and other apps that allow you to create presentations or movies with an interface of a whiteboard.

Easily create websites using Adobe Slate: May 27

Learn how to make quick online digital stories using a free iPad app that allows you to create websites that include photos, text and hyperlinks. Want to see Beatrice (Rich's grand-daughter)

eBooks/eTextbooks: Using them in your classroom: June 3

Come learn about how modern “social” eBooks allow discussion and annotation within the eBook. These features, plus other multimedia and tools in modern eBooks might help spice up your course text and classroom discussion. We will explore the eBook/eTextbook platforms Inkling, Copia and Britewave.

Using online assessment tools for K-°©‐12 classrooms: June 10

This workshop will explore several online assessment tools that can be easily constructed and utilized as game, multiple choice, text submission, exit passes, and even holding paper codes up in the classroom. We will explore Kahoots, Socrative, Plickers and maybe other online assessment options.

Navigating a sea of apps: June 17

There are many apps out there; which ones are the best for what you want to do in the classroom or as a teacher? Come learn about online resources for discovering teacher-vetted apps for just about any pk-12 subject, learning activity, and device.

Animation with GoAnimate: June 17

If you want to learn animation, or have your students create animations as projects for your class, come to this session and learn about GoAnimate. The ETMC has purchased a yearly subscription for limited numbers of faculty and students as a trial so come and try your hand at animation!

Google for Education: July 1

Virginia schools are heavily using Google for Education tools. Come learn some Google tools you can use in your classroom with your students to help prepare them for using these tools as a teacher.

Microsoft Office on your iPad: July 8

Did you know that Office is available on your own iPad for free? Come learn about these apps and explore howyou can edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents on your mobile device.

SharePoint: July 15

Come with your questions, ideas about SharePoint and the College of Education. Learn about OneDrive and Creating, editing and sharing Office documents online.
