College of Business Welcomes Dr. Michael Busing as Interim Dean

College of Business

Mike Busing

As we continue our national search for the dean of JMU’s College of Business, I am pleased to welcome Dr. Michael Busing, formerly Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and current The John M. Thomas Faculty Scholar, to his new role as Interim Dean.

Mike joined the College of Business as an assistant professor of Operations Management in 1996 after completing his Ph.D. in Industrial Management from Clemson University. Since that time he earned tenure and was ultimately promoted to the rank of professor. He served as Director of MBA Programs for five years and became Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in 2015.

The College of Business owes a great debt to outgoing Dean Mary Gowan, who maintained a deep commitment to our students, faculty, alumni, and programs. Mary worked tirelessly to launch the planning for the new Learning Complex, increase funding support, and raise awareness of the exceptional work being done in the CoB.

I am confident that Mike will provide a seamless transition in leadership and continue our upward trajectory. I am extremely grateful for his willingness to lead the College and move us forward with commitment, energy, and professionalism until the new dean can begin in the role.
