The JMU College of Business (CoB) was represented at this year’s CFA Investment Research Challenge by a team comprising quantitative finance and finance majors. The competition, which included students from other Virginia universities, involved writing and presenting a financial analysis and investment recommendation for a company chosen by the CFA Virginia Society. The competition took place in Richmond in February.
The students began working on the challenge in October 2016 and submitted written reports by the end of January 2017. They were selected to present their report by members of the CFA Virginia Society, who also judged the final competition. The JMU team included Ted Hogan, Farshid Javar, Jake McMonagle, Ivan Lukic and Sam Bean. Pamela Peterson Drake was the academic advisor, and Asa Graves of Wells Fargo Securities served as the team mentor.
