Remembering Former Marketing Professor George Wynn

Former Marketing Professor and Department Chair George Wesley Wynn, 72, of Lexington, N.C., died Aug. 2, 2013, at home following an eight-month illness. He was born in Amarillo on March 25, 1941, to John Gilbert and Margaret Ellen Wright Wynn.

He received his BS in industrial engineering in 1964 from Texas Tech University and was later honored as an outstanding graduate of the Industrial Engineering Department.

During college, George met and married the love of his life, Jeri Ann Walker. He went on to earn an MBA from Wright State University (1969) and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University (1982).
Following graduation from Texas A&M, he began a teaching career as a marketing professor at the University of Arkansas.

In 1986, he became the department head of the marketing department at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. He was head of the JMU Faculty Senate and retired as Senate Marshal in 2007.

George remained grounded in his Texas roots, and his passion for land and cattle resumed in 1992 when he bought Wynndy Hill Farm in Broadway, Va. In 2010, he and Jeri moved to Lexington, N.C., to be closer to their family.
