COB Alumnus JP Mowery Named Outstanding CPA in Government Award Winner
JP Mowery, a 1990 accounting graduate, and a 1996 MBA graduate, has been named the outstanding CPA in government award winner by the West Virginia Society of CPAs. The awards were given out on Friday, June 21, at the Greenbrier Hotel.
JP currently serves as the Business Manager/Treasurer of the Pendleton County Board of Education, since 1993. From 1990 to 1993, JP was a Staff Accountant with Phibbs, Burkholder, Geisert & Huffman, CPAs in Virginia. He also served from 1988-2011 as a part-time statistician at James Madison University
He is a member of the WV Association of School Business Officials, WV Association of School Administrators, International Association of School Business Officials, the WVSCPA, a current member and former director of the Pendleton County Chamber of Commerce, and a former board member of the WV Association of School Business Officials and Accounting Committee. He has presented before various state legislative committees and was inducted into the June Harless Hall of Fame in 2006.
JP was nominated by Pendleton County Superintendent of Schools Doug Lambert. Following are excerpts from his nomination: “JP has been an invaluable leader for Pendleton County Schools during the 19 years he has been employed as the Treasurer/Chief Financial Officer for Pendleton County Schools. Not only is JP an invaluable member of our leadership team, he has earned statewide recognition in the education community for his knowledge of school finance issues, particularly regarding the state school funding formula.”
