CoB Students Receive Certified Manager® (CM®) Certification
Each year, a handful of management majors are chosen by the JMU management department to obtain Certified Manager®(CM®) certification. The certification is sponsored by the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM), a business center of the JMU College of Business. Certification brings managerial confidence and recognition to graduates seeking employment by offering a professional credential beyond their college degree.
To obtain CM® certification, students must meet eligibility criteria for education and experience, complete a comprehensive course of management and leadership study, and pass three challenging CM® certification exams. Successful students receive the CM® professional credential, which recognizes managerial competency and leadership potential.
Under the leadership of CoB faculty member Mike Yankey, CM, the student program began in September 2012 and concluded in April 2013. Senior management students participating in this year’s program included: David P. Jones (recipient of a full CM® scholarship from ICPM), Kyle Barker, Rachel Griffin, Nathan Barth and LeeNora Linkous. Students received their CM certificates at a May 3rd awards ceremony.
ICPM has sponsored the CM certification for over 38 years. There are currently over 11,000 Certified Mangers recognized in over 60 countries. Lynn S. Powell, CM and JMU alumnus, serves as the Executive Director for ICPM. For more information about the CM® certification, please visit www.icpm.biz or call 540-568-3247.
