ROTC Students Commissioned

HARRISONBURG – Three James Madison University students were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army Friday, Dec. 15, in a commissioning ceremony in JMU's Sonner Hall, a day prior to their graduation from JMU.

The JMU ROTC students are:

* Alexander J. Black, an international business major commissioned as a Distingished Military graduate for being in the nation's top 20 percent of commissioned students for 2006. Black has been branched in Intelligence in the Army Reserves.

* Early F. Dudley, who received a bachelor of science degree in anthropology from JMU Dec. 16, is branched Intelligence in the U.S. Army (active duty).

* Matthias C. Mueller, who earned a bachelor of business administration in computer information systems, has been branched Quartermaster in the U.S. Army (active duty).

During the commissioning ceremony, JMU's ROTC "Duke Battalion" presented the Department of the Army's "Commander's Award for Public Service" to JMU wrestling coach Joshua G. Hutchens. The commendation was presented to Hutchens for "his steadfast support" for JMU's military science department since May 2004 by offering facilities and resources that help prepare JMU's ROTC cadets.

The award was presented to Hutchens by Lt. Col. Rodney Lusher, head of JMU's military science department, and Master Sgt. Charles McIntyre, a senior military instructor at JMU.

New graduate Mueller was on the wrestling team under Hutchings.
