James Madison University concludes each semester by conferring academic degrees on its graduating students at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels.

Additionally, the academic achievements of JMU undergraduate students during the past semester are acknowledged with two honors lists: the Dean's List and the President's List. To qualify for these semester honors lists, students must achieve a set grade-point average or above and must take a required minimum number of credit hours or more during the semester.

To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must carry a semester course load of 12 graded credit hours or more and earn a GPA of 3.500 to 3.899.

To qualify for the President's List, a student must carry a semester course load of 12 graded credit hours or more and earn a GPA of 3.900 or above.
