New traffic pattern on Carrier Drive

News

by Bill Wyatt

Drivers and Pedestrians,

A new pedestrian activated traffic signal has been installed at the crosswalk on Carrier Drive at the I-81 bridge near White Hall.  This signal was installed to improve safety and traffic flow of both vehicles and pedestrians at this crosswalk.

Pedestrians can activate the pedestrian crossing by pressing the button on the signal post on either side of Carrier drive.  Please observe and adhere to the pedestrian crossing display countdowns.  Do not cross against moving vehicular traffic or if you do not have the walk signal.  The longest wait time for pedestrians after either button is pushed is 30 seconds.

Vehicle operators should be alert for a changing traffic light as they approach and be prepared to stop until the light turns green again and the crosswalk is clear before continuing on.  Drivers should maintain a safe and legal speed while driving not just in this area but also throughout the entire JMU aommunity.

Stay alert and stay safe!
