NELSON INSTITUTE DIRECTOR’S CONGRESSIONAL TESTIMONY: AFRICA COMMAND IS “HISTORIC OPPORTUNITY”

HARRISONBURG—Dr. J. Peter Pham, Director of the Nelson Institute for International and Public Affairs at James Madison University, testified at a hearing of the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the United States House of Representatives called to examine the new unified combatant command for Africa (AFRICOM).

The eleven-member subcommittee, chaired by Congressman Donald M. Payne (D-New Jersey), was told by Dr. Pham that AFRICOM offered “a historic opportunity” which “offers the potential for sustained engagement of a region where America has very real strategic interests.”
