The piano faculty is dedicated to enhancing the musical and career goals of all students. Our graduates have gone on to successful music careers in accompanying, performing, teaching and church music. JMU also has an outstanding record of placing graduates into elite graduate programs throughout the country, including the University of Cincinnati, University of Texas at Austin, University of Michigan, University of Illinois, Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, Florida State University and Manhattan School of Music.
Students have opportunities to perform in many different settings, including the piano area, School of Music recitals, solo and chamber music recitals, and in some of the school's many choral, instrumental and jazz ensembles. The Music Building offers students some of the finest facilities in the region, including a number of grand piano practice rooms exclusively for piano majors.
The School of Music's piano majors have always been active in competitions and performances in Virginia and beyond. A few highlights include winning state, regional and national competitions sponsored by the National Music Teachers Association, National Classical Period Piano Competition, New River Valley Symphony Orchestra and Sigma Alpha Iota fraternity. Piano majors have also performed with various orchestras, including the Prince William Symphony.
