Welcome to the Orchestral Studies website at James Madison University! Information provided here will give you some insight into our programs and provide you important information regarding the application process to and setting up an audition for the J.M.U. School of Music.
Our goal is to provide you the best training and musical experience possible. We have full-time faculty in every orchestral and wind band performance studio. Our more than 45 full-time faculty and approximately 20 adjunct faculty, a total of 66 current faculty members, are here to help you develop into the best educator, the finest performer, and/or the finest employee in the Music Industry business or a top composer in the area of Composition.
The audition dates to begin the Fall 2011 semester in the School of Music are as follows:

The JMU School of Music offers the Bachelor of Music degree in the following concentrations: Music Education, Music Performance, Music Industry and Composition.
The M.M. degree includes majors in: Music Education, Music Performance, Music Industry and Composition. The M.M./D.M.A. degree is available in: Performance, Pedagogy and Literature, with concentrations in Orchestral, Wind Band or Choral Conducting, as well as Performance.
The deadline for application for the undergraduate program is January 15, 2011. Interested students would need to apply for both admission to the University as well as for admission and an audition appointment in the School of Music. The application deadline for the M.M. and for the D.M.A. programs is April 1, 2011. However, for full consideration for an assistantship, all materials must be received, and the required audition completed, no later than March 1, 2011.
