"Tibetan Book of the Dead." JMU Professor David Pope performs the transformative work he wrote for first performance in 2007; the unique piece is played on various woodwind and percussion instruments and features eight movements, each based on a meditation state expressed in the ancient Tibetan "Bardo Thodol," a text of funeral rites used by Tibetan Buddhist; | Forbes Center Recital Hall, 8 pm

9/13 | Tuesday - JMU Faculty/Student Opera - Eros and Psyche
with music by Larry Taylor and libretto by Tom Noe. Soloists include
Dorothy Maddison, Soprano as the aged Psyche, Leah Hill, Soprano as the Young Psyche, Kevin McMillan, Baritone, as Zeus and Ross Neal, Baritone as Eros.
This joint production with students from JMU and Bridgewater College as a Chorus of Furies will include a faculty and student chamber orchestra.

9/17 | Saturday - Special Event - Jazz 4 Justice - JMU Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Chuck Dotas with JMU Faculty Andy Connell, Marlon Foster, Bob Hallahan, David Pope and Taylor Barnett. Musicians of all levels, bring your instruments! All guests are welcome to a post–concert jam session. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefit JMU School of Music scholarships, the pro bono programs of Blue Ridge Legal Services, Inc. We welcome you to join us on this exploration of chamber music, choral works and songs written or inspired by Middle Eastern composers, including a world premiere jazz piece by Chuck Dotas. This performance is presented by the Staunton Music Festival in cooperation with the Office of International Programs and faculty from the School of Music.
