Mission statement: The purpose of the JMU chapter of the NAACP is to improve the educational, social, and economic status of all groups with special regards for underserved populations including sexual orientation; to elimination racial prejudice; to keep the public aware of the adverse effects of racial discrimination; and to take all lawful action to secure it's elimination, consistent with the National Board of Directors.

 

                      NAACP's Three major programs:

 

Ø    Back to school/Stay in School:Back to school Stay in school is a program that is targeted towards the Harrisonburg Students, to keep them encouraged and to help them further their education by providing them positive role models. It is a one day event with food and games.

 

Ø  Unity Mixer:The Unity Mixer is a program that is used to promote the JMU mission statement of togetherness on Campus. All students organizations are invited to attend so that we all can learn more about each other in a happy and harmonious atmosphere.

 

Ø   Image awards: The NAACP Image Awards are held annually, this program honors the students, faculty, staff, and the Organizations, for exceptional contributions to JMU and the Harrisonburg Community.

 

  • Elections are normally held: Each April
