CMSS is the place where all students can celebrate diversity!

MissionStatement:

Alpha Phi Alpha was founded with one thing in mind: scholarship.  An Alpha man is first a college man, and his greatest boast is scholastic excellence in his chosen field of endeavor.

Since 1979, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc, representation on the James Madison University campus, has provided opportunities for African-American students and others to seek membership in one of the historically Black Greek letter organizations.  Our primary focus is community service and to provide a link to the JMU campus and the Harrisonburg community of issues and concerns of the African-American community and other people of color.

From the fraternity's ranks have come outstanding civil rights leaders such as W.E.B DuBois, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young, William Gray, Paul Robeson, Julius Chambers, Maynard Jackson and many others.
