BRIAN L. SHERROD,A RESEARCH GEOLOGIST WITH THE U/S GEOLOGICAL SURVEY'S DEPARTMENT OF EARTH AND SPACE SCIENCES, was featured in the Seattle Times last fall for his work and research of the Seattle Fault zone. Sherrod and other researchers have studied 10 trenches along the Seattle Fault zone and found evidence of four earthquake events from 10,000 years ago to about 1,000 years ago. Researchers hope their work will lead to a better understanding of the Seattle Fault's workings and to improve building codes and other measures to project fault-zone residents and infrastructures.
