Your history is a
badge of honor
The Virginia Department of Transportation in cooperation with the Department of Historic Resources placed two historical highway markers on Main Street near the Quad and at the Port Republic Road entrance to campus. The markers give a brief history of JMU, and the idea originated with a student organization, the Madison Historians. Instrumental in the request to have the markers prepared were Kehl Mandt ('03), J.T. Garber ('03), Christy Schoonmaker ('04) and Katie Simpson ('05). Nearly 2,000 roadside markers commemorating sites, individuals, buildings and events of interest have been placed on highways around the state.
