Romantic North Carolina: More than 300 Things to do for Southern Lovers
1999 Hill Street Press
ISBN 1892514141
By Lisa M. Dellwo ('81/'83 M.A.) and Jessica Philyaw

Lisa M. Dellwo's first book, Romantic North Carolina, is more than a travel guide; it's a celebration of the romantic adventures available in North Carolina. Divided into chapters such as "Love in the Bleachers" to "Arts for the Heart," the book offers a plethora of information about North Carolina history and unique tourist attractions. From advice on booking a berth on North Carolina's only boat and breakfast, to information about rafting the French Broad River, Dellwo and Philyaw show readers how to indulge in the romance of the Tarheel state. The book is a must-have for southern lovers and history buffs. A former UNC Press worker, Dellwo is now a freelance writer, and her work includes reviews of mystery books for About.com. Her next project is a book of clues for a mystery lover's crossword puzzle book.

By Margaret Garwood Cutchins ('51)

The late Margaret Garwood Cutchins taught English and social studies in Virginia before moving to Alabama and teaching at the Lee-Scott Academy in Auburn. She served as president of the Alabama State Poetry Society, and survived for 12 years after brain tumor surgery in 1984. Helen Blackshear, poet laureate of Alabama, says, "Margaret Cutchins' poems have a quality I find missing in most modern day poetry. All the small but significant details of daily life are evident in her work."

Cutchins garnered many awards for poems published in this book, including contests sponsored by the Alabama State Poetry Society and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies.
