Dr. Fitzgerald is Assistant Professor of History. He earned the Ph. D. at Harvard University, where his dissertation was entitled "Ottoman Methods of Conquest: Legal Imperialism and the City of Aleppo, 1480-1570." Before coming to JMU, he taught at Rice University.

Dr. Fitzgerald teaches courses in world history, Middle Eastern history, comparative empires, and the practice of history.
