The Aeroacoustics Lab at JMU contains a 3m x 5m x 5m anechoic chamber. This soundproof room is used to conduct simultaneous acoustical (4 B&K microphones at different angles to the test section) and optical (a Schlieren system of mirrors and lenses) measurements. The current focus of the lab is on the behavior of high-speed turbulent wall jets; specifically Coanda jets. Applications include the Antares rocket, which delivers cargo and experiments to the international Space Station.
