Dr. Newell D. Wright
Dr. Newell D. Wright received
a BA in French and an MBA from Brigham Young University and a Ph.D.
in marketing from Virginia Tech. A prolific researcher, Dr.
Wright has published over 75 articles in various marketing
publications over the past fifteen years. Dr. Wright is also
an award-winning teacher. He received the 2002 Outstanding
Educator Award from the Academy of Educational Leadership for his
innovative and creative approach to teaching. He also
received the 2000 Distinguished Teaching Award from the Direct
Marketing Educational Foundation and the 2001 and 2004 JMU College
of Business Teaching innovation awards for his courses in Internet
marketing for the semester in Antwerp program which he
created.
One of Dr. Wright's passions
is international education. Fluent in French, he has taken
over five hundred JMU students to countries across Europe. He
created the JMU Semester in Antwerp Program in
2002 and expanded it in 2005 to include a minor in European Marketing for non business
majors. In April, 2005, he won the Provost Award for
Excellence in International Education for his study abroad
efforts. Dr. Wright was also the initial recipient of the JMU
Emeriti Faculty Legacy Grant in 2006, a $2,000 unrestricted grant,
again in recognition of his efforts in international
education.
