How to find a doctor

If you are new to the city or Harrisonburg or county of Rockingham you may not know how to find a doctor. Here are some ideas on how to find a doctor in this area.

Someone who is sick or has a sick family member needs to find a doctor. There are many kinds of doctors. What kind of doctor do you need? A family practitioner is a doctor for ordinary health problems like back pain or feeling sick. We also go to a family practitioner for check-ups and physicals when we are not sick. Usually, you go to a specialist when the family practitioner sends you because he does not have the special knowledge to help you. You can go to a specialist first but you health insurance may not pay for the visit.

You can find a doctor in the yellow pages of your telephone directory. You can ask friends and other people which doctors that they use, you can call the hospital and ask about doctors, or you can use a computer and go to the Internet and try the local hospital and doctor web sites.

You call and make an appointment with a doctor's office. You can also go by the doctor's office and make an appointment.

See "Your Doctor's Appointment" at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital web site to find out how to prepare for your appointment. Follow these links: first, click on "Find a Doctor," then click on "Tips for Choosing a Doctor." The RMH web site also has a doctor directory so people can find the kind of doctor that they need.
