Steering Committee • Position
Description
Job Description
Steering Committee members are responsible for planning all
aspects of the Madison Class Challenge. This includes, but is
not limited to:
- Recruiting and
training Volunteers
- Design and implement Madison Class Challenge
publicity
- Organizing fundraising activities and
events
- Communication with fellow students,
faculty members and university administration
- Serve as a liaison between the
Development Office and your Class
- Secure and distribute volunteer
incentives
- Attend weekly Steering Committee Meetings and Volunteer
meetings
- Participate in the post-evaluation of
the Madison Class Challenge
- Attend Steering Committee Retreat &
Training (Date & Time will be determined based on
availability of selected Steering Committee members.)

INFORMATION
Qualified applicants should meet the following
criteria:
- JMU full-time student in good academic standing (underclassmen
are encouraged to apply.)
- Team player
- Motivated, self-starter, highly organized
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Be reliable and timely
- Be flexible
- Awareness of your own strengths and weaknesses and willingness
to enhance and improve as necessary
- Computer skills preferred
- Good sense of humor!
Timeline
Spring 2007
- Attend Steering Committee Retreat on April 22 (3-4 hours)
- Brainstorm potential MCC Challenge Captains
- Plan and implement Challenge Captain Fall Training session
Fall 2007 and Spring 2008
- Attend Steering Committee Retreat/Training on September 2 (3-4
hours)
- Attend minimum of one, one-hour Steering Committee meeting per
week
- Complete approx. 3-5 hours per week preparation/communication
(completed on your own time with support from the Student
Director and Madison Fund Assistant Director)
