Located in the upper level of the Festival Conference and Student Center, Prism International Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting works that explore global culture.

Prism International Gallery has established an ongoing partnership with the Center for Global Engagement.  The gallery's exhibit is in thematic keeping with the annual International Week (I-Week).  Each fall, drawing heavily upon photos taken by international students, study abroad participants, faculty, and staff, Prism International Gallery mounts a photography exhibit featuring images from I-Week's focus area.  The display can range from the whimsical to the sublime, but always offers a broader and deeper view.

Global Engagement: Out of Many, One

Though we are many and represent immense diversity that we should celebrate, our hope for the future lies in our ability to connect with one another and collaborate. Global engagement, after all, happens right here in our own communities, as well as abroad.

Nestled in the Shenandoah Valley and close to major metropolitan areas, JMU is strategically poised to be a hub of global engagement for our students, faculty, staff, and larger community.

Did you know:

  • The Harrisonburg community is one of the most diverse areas in this region: one of 33 Church World Service Refugee Resettlement sites (and one of the sites with the highest rate of refugee resettlement per capita) and one of the most diverse school systems in Virginia (56 languages represented and with more than half of students have a language other than English spoken at home).
  • More JMU students participate in study abroad than most of our peers (#1 for total number of students studying abroad on short-term programs) with 1,380+ students studying in 55+ different countries each year.
  • Our international student body has been increasing steadily over the past 5 years and continues to grow. Right now at JMU we have international students representing 75 countries.
